CASE STUDY: KARIBU AI

As the lead product designer, I took on the challenge of designing Karibu’s platform from scratch. Karibu is an innovative onboarding platform that integrates gamification and AI-driven personalization to enhance user engagement and streamline onboarding processes. The project required developing a cohesive and intuitive user experience that catered to a diverse set of users, including new hires and administrators. Our journey began with a detailed Product Requirements Document (PRD), laying the groundwork for a high-fidelity interface that would meet Karibu’s unique needs.

THE
CHALLENGE

We faced several challenges at the outset, primarily the need to build a comprehensive design system capable of supporting Karibu’s complex functionality. The platform needed to effectively communicate essential information while remaining user-friendly and visually appealing. This meant designing an onboarding flow that was engaging, intuitive, and able to accommodate varying levels of user familiarity with digital tools.

THE DESIGN

The design process started with the development of low-fidelity wireframes and an exhaustive PRD that outlined the platform’s core functionalities and user interactions. These wireframes served as a blueprint for the initial structure, allowing us to map out the user journey and identify key components such as dashboards, activity views, and performance tracking features. Collaboration with stakeholders was crucial during this phase, as we translated these initial concepts into an interactive prototype.

User experience was a primary focus throughout the design process. We aimed to create an engaging onboarding experience by incorporating gamified elements such as points, badges, and customizable avatars. These features were not just for visual appeal but were strategically implemented to motivate and reward users as they navigated the platform. The design evolved through several iterations, each refining the user flow and interface based on feedback and usability testing.

Once the wireframes and prototypes were validated, we moved to high-fidelity UI design. The final design was a visually compelling interface featuring vibrant illustrations and a consistent design language that resonated with Karibu’s brand identity. We also integrated AI-driven personalization, which allowed the platform to recommend activities and provide feedback based on individual user progress. This level of customization ensured that users received a tailored onboarding experience, enhancing their engagement and satisfaction.

One of the standout features of the new design was the customizable dashboards for different user personas. These dashboards offered personalized content and interactive elements, providing relevant insights and resources at a glance. Additionally, we ensured that the platform was fully responsive, delivering a consistent and optimized experience across all devices, from desktops to mobile phones. This accessibility was crucial for users who needed to engage with the platform from various locations and devices.

THE RESULTS

Reflecting on this project, it was an incredibly rewarding experience to lead the design from concept to completion. Starting with a strong foundational strategy of wireframes and a PRD enabled us to build a polished, user-centered product. This project not only highlighted my skills in UX/UI design but also demonstrated my ability to guide a project through each stage of development, ensuring that every detail aligned with the overall vision and user needs.
